Two New Wines in the 2022 Vintage, Carignan in Clay Amphorae

At Celler Sabaté, the 2022 harvest left us with much more than a good wine-growing year: in that year, two more were born into the family, as well as two very special wines, born of passion, history… and a little bit of chance.

Two very special wines, made with Carignan and aged in clay amphorae.

The first, which we named “Plantadeta 1909”, is a tribute to our roots. It is made exclusively with grapes from the oldest Carignan vines on the estate, planted in 1909 by my great-grandfather. For this wine, we wanted to do something special: we had a clay amphora made specifically for this wine, seeking an aging process that would respect the essence of the fruit and provide the texture of the Carignan without interference. The result is a deep, austere, and elegant wine that speaks of the character of the soil and the passage of time.

A wine that we will only produce in the best vintages and when the winery considers them optimal to show their potential, in the first vintage only 186 bottles of this magnificent wine: Plantadeta 1909 Vino de Paraje

The second wine was born almost by chance when we acquired a second 500l clay amphora. For the moment without a defined destination, and with the Grenache already in barrels, we decided to fill it also with old vineyard Carignan.
It ended up being a pleasant surprise: a vibrant, expressive, and very pure wine, which reveals another side of the variety, fresher and more spontaneous.

Both wines share the same philosophy: minimal intervention, absolute respect for the raw material, and the desire to bottle the authenticity of Priorat with each harvest.
