HISTORY AND TRADITION
The same formula for four generations.
Since 1910, in the heart of Priorat, Celler Sabaté has maintained the same formula for four generations. Our winery, located in Vilella Baixa, is part of the D.O.Q. Priorat, recognized worldwide for obtaining high-quality wines with a strong personality, the result of the special climatic conditions to which its vineyards are subjected: abundance of sun, little rain, and slate soils that give a low productivity.
We are a family winery, and each wine we produce is born from our own land. All the grapes come from our own vineyards, cultivated with patience and respect, just as our ancestors did.
Our history dates back to 1910, when Jaume Sabaté Alentorn, great-grandfather of the current generation, began to market the wine that his family already produced at home. Years later, in 1927, he acquired La Plantadeta, a farm near the village of Vilella Baixa, where our wines and products are born today.
Between 1980-1990 Jaume Sabaté Mestre, the third generation, took over the reins of the business, adapting to the new times, moving from bulk marketing to bottling, changing part of the philosophy up to that moment.
These were the beginnings of Celler Sabaté; since 1910, the Sabaté family has never stopped making wines. More than 100 years of history where respect and tradition have gone hand in hand, generation after generation.
Currently, Jaume Sabaté Rodríguez, the fourth generation of winegrowers and winemakers, is in charge of the winery, vineyard, and marketing of the wines with the support of Jaume Sabaté Mestre, in the winery, with new winemaking techniques, and in the vineyard, with the know-how of our ancestors to achieve the highest quality of Plantadeta wines.
Celler Sabaté has a great past, a solid present, and a hopeful future; a long road, dedicated above all to the cultivation of the vineyard, from the respect and admiration we have for our lands.
Finca La Plantadeta
At the foot of the Montsant mountain range lies La Plantadeta, the main estate of Celler Sabaté. With more than 15 hectares in production, including vineyards, olive trees, almond trees, and some walnut trees, and 6 ha of forest, with a difference in altitude of more than 85 meters, it is the largest estate in the municipality of Vilella Baixa.
In La Plantadeta, we cultivate Garnacha and Cariñena to produce red wines, and Garnacha Blanca and Moscatel for the white wines. Our wines are born from this unique estate, recognized for their quality within the D.O.Q. Priorat and awarded by the specialized press.
Recently, we have rehabilitated an area of the farm where there were almond trees to replant in 2025 five small terraces with 500 vines of white Cariñena, a variety planted as a complement to our white Grenache, to bring balance and freshness to the wine.
We cultivate our vineyard in goblet form, always seeking the correct maturity in the grape’s grain and skin as a whole, with a good concentration of polyphenols and sugars.
We do not forget the olive trees, some of which are centuries old, which produce high-quality Arbequina olives, cultivated on terraces and also on the Solaneta estate, where stone is the protagonist.
The land, the climate, the orography, and more than a century of dedication make the wines and oils of Plantadeta unique and exclusive, with a personality that distinguishes them within the region.
